Vanuatu is an interesting, diverse and mysterious Melanesian archipelagos in relation to culture and their use of Kava. With 80 of the 118 species of kava growing in Vanuatu, kava use is a way of life both historical and contemporary ceremonies. Kava is also a cash crop bringing income to farmers. The roots of the plant are used to produce a drink with sedative, anesthetic, and euphoria, properties and is drunk by a shell at kava bars or 'Nakamals' as they are called in Vanuatu.
