St.Andrew Day and Traditional Leaf Fishing Festival
Start your journey with us...
Wednesday 29th November - Thursday 30th November
3:35 - 5:35pm
For more than 100 years, the people of Rah and neighbouring Mota Lava, in the Banks group of islands, have been coming together to combine custom tradition with Christianity to celebrate the life of St. Andrew, making the Saint Andrew’s Day Cultural Festival a very special event – a Christian festival infused with local indigenous traditions. It includes three days of extraordinary and authentic cultural activities in a truly stunning location. Only on Rah Island can guests participate with the local community in an ancient fishing technique using vines and coconut leaves, and bows and arrows, to catch dinner. Visitors can also witness a “Volcano Bake”, men’s and women’s custom dancing, and the rare and powerful combination of custom dancing and gospel church choir. For the more adventurous, it’s also possible to go trekking – either up the Rock of Rah, or to Mount Tuntong, also known as Sleeping Mountain.
