Dear operators,

We would like to take this time to share with you some key updates from our Long-Haul Markets.

As you may (or may not) know, the in-person edition of ITB Berlin 2022 was cancelled, after being originally planned to take place this month. Owing to the latest developments and directives as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, Messe Berlin was not in a position to proceed with its exhibitors and partners. The current situation surrounding the pandemic, as well as the heightened travel restrictions and limitations imposed on the numbers of people that can attend large events, is the main reason behind Messe Berlin's unfortunate decision.

However, with the opening of the borders from our long-haul markets to Australia and New Zealand, this presents a long-awaited opportunity for us in the Pacific, to connect with our key suppliers in Europe and update on our status as a country moving forward.

There is an appetite for knowledge on which properties are still operating, their current status now, what is happening with rates, are all the restaurants still open, from staff and training, to safe business operations and many other questions.

Despite the situation with Ukraine, which we all find very heartbreaking and economically challenging, European passengers have adopted a #cancel-covid attitude and are planning and booking their long-haul journeys once again.

The Vanuatu Tourism Office answered the call from our European trade partners and took part at the virtual Meet the Pacific 2022 last week (28th – 29th March) for two nights - back-to-back meetings with wholesalers and trade representatives from Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Austria, Denmark, Switzerland, Sweden, and Spain.

It was a timely opportunity to promote our tourism offering, and update our partners on the road that Vanuatu is taking towards the safe reopening of our borders. It also gives us valuable insight into what European travelers will be looking for now that borders around us are reopening, and gives us reassurance that our beautiful destination remains a top tourism spot to visit.
