Blue Lagoon - the cyan dot on Efate's coastline

Just half an hour out of Port Vila, the gorgeous Blue Lagoon is one of the most popular spots for visitors to head. Beyond being incredibly Instagrammable, the Blue Lagoon will be hours of fun for the young and young at heart.

Getting There

The Blue Lagoon's just a half hour drive from the centre of Port Vila. It's on the east coast of Efate and can be accessed in a range of ways.

Many tour companies, on their round-island half or full day tours, will stop in to the Blue Lagoon for an hour or two.

If you have your own wheels, it's a fairly easy drive along sealed road and picturesque coastline. If you'd rather someone else does the driving, your accommodation will be able to set you up with a driver who can drive you out and back, and will wait while you splash about. Give the driver an indication of approximately how long you plan to stay at the lagoon for an accurate quote.

If you prefer to go under your own steam, it's a fairly flat (though long) cycle ride.

If you prefer to travel like the locals, the B Bus (approx. VT400) will get you out there with no worries!

Getting In

You'll need to bring cash with you to the Blue Lagoon. It's 500 vatu for adults, and 300 vatu for kids, so be sure to bring some coins with you to pay the entry fee. This money goes to the locals who own the land where the lagoon is located. The fee gives you access to the facilities around the lagoon.

What's There & What To Bring

The Blue Lagoon is in a stunning setting. Fringed by trees and bushes, it's secluded from the bustle of Port Vila and Efate's main road, and makes for a great backdrop for your inevitable Instagram shot. There are nice grassy areas for picnics, as well as toilets and change rooms (so you can get into your bathers before launching off the rope swing!) Note that there aren't lockers, though it is a safe environment.

Beyond a sense of fun and adventure, we suggest you bring your swimming gear (towels and bathers), and water or snacks you may want (there aren't any food outlets) and sunscreen. You may also like to bring any flotation devices or snorkels/goggles to add to your Blue Lagoon experience.

What To Do There

You could easily spend hours at the Blue Lagoon, whether you're after doing a little or a lot! Jump into the lapis-hued waters off the wooden platforms, swing in off the rope swings, or jump in off the trees. You'll certainly see the local kids showing off their rope swing skills, and they love a bit of friendly competition for who can do the best jump. Around the Blue Lagoon, you'll find benches and grass where you can sit back and watch everything unfold, perhaps with a picnic lunch.
