Owners Malakai and Rachel have prepared a half day magical tour highlighting the customs and practices of Wala Rano on nearby Malekula (Rachel’s home island).
Your experience begins when you are led onto the property by warriors singing a traditional welcome entrance song. Once seated on benches made of local hardwood and bamboo you will witness the magic of Wala Rano custom dance. The chief will lead a group of men and boys in 4 traditional dances while a tour guide explains the meaning of the songs, actions and custom dress. Become enchanted with the beat of the traditional tamtam drums made of hard wood and bamboo and the ornate feather headdress of the dancers.
After an opportunity of photos with the dancers you will be led to traditional and contemporary skills displays including a local ‘magic’ show, display of copra harvesting and bird trapping, WWII artifacts and custom pottery. Learn about the value of animals in Vanuatu society while feeding the local fish, parrots, pigs, chickens, snakes.
Refreshments are provided after the tour is finished in the fare restaurant. Handicrafts and drinks are also available for purchase.
On Thursday nights Pui host’s an island night including food kava and traditional entertainment.
IN-HOUSE ACTIVITIES include Island and village walkabout tour, Feed the fish, parrots, pigs, chickens, event snakes, Refreshments and a restaurant on site.
