The world’s best baristas invited to Vanuatu!
Media release,August 10, 2009: Vanuatu’s annual Barista competition will be held this year from 12 -14 November at Le Lagon Resort Port Vila. This year, baristas worldwide are invited to enter and compete for the title against Vanuatu’s best. The competition is part of the worldwide barista completion circuit and will follow international rules. International judge Robert Forsyth (Cafe Latte judge, World Coffee in Good Spirit judge, World Ibrik judge) will help to judge and oversee the competition, ensuring it meets world standards. With rich volcanic and organic soil perfect for growing coffee and French heritage from its time as a French Anglo condominium, it is not surprising that Vanuatu has a strong coffee culture. The competition is the perfect opportunity for Australian baristas to compete in a professional competition, share skills and discover an island paradise with friendly people, coral reefs, waterfalls, crystal clear turquoise ocean and of course, good coffee.
Competitors can spend time pampering themselves in the cosmopolitan Port Vila, sampling Vanuatu’s fresh organic produce at a selection of the 68 restaurants around town, sipping cocktails or relaxing by the water. If a more active experience is in order, Port Vila offers walking, kayaking, sailing, snorkeling and horse riding tours to discover the island of Efate and the beautiful surrounding waters. For coffee connoisseurs, a visit to Tanna Island to see the coffee plantations is a must do.
Not to mention the chance to stand on the rim of one of the world’s most accessible active volcanoes. Spending time on this powerful volcano, watching lava explode into the air is certainly worth the trip. There is also fascinating culture to discover and a visit to a custom village where locals have rejected western ways of life and still live traditionally, offers a fascinating peep into the past.
With all of this, and according to the Happy Planet index in 2006 – the world’s happiest people it is little wonder Vanuatu is becoming a favourite for Australian travellers. Barista Vanuatu will be held 12- 14 November, Port Vila Vanuatu.
