 On 2nd and 3rd June, VTO staff members came together at The Melanesian for a 2 days workshop to discuss a 3 years planning for VTO including, new vision, current and new activities, corporate culture featuring qualities of a good team and workplace discussing personal qualities, physical environment, learning environment, VTO work plan, leadership qualities & career opportunities, reviewed job descriptions, and Individual Development Plan. Though the workshop only ran for 2 days under the direction of Annie Niatu and Alison Allcock, all staff members agreed that it has been an overwhelmingly satisfying end result, and they are all looking forward to adapting into the new creative and electronic developments that are fast approaching inline with the new branding.

 All pacific islands put on their best dress to showcase their destinations at the 15th Bula Fiji Tourism Exchange from 19th to 21st May in Fiji, and in the end, Vanuatu was the hot favourite for the Booth Award! Positive comments filled the air from delegates who met with Vanuatu sellers, applauding the group on the destination’s well signposted booths that stood out with a beautiful array of flags and rich colours lining the area in front of each booth, as well as the back walls. Booths sneak peaked three of Vanuatu Tourism’s new creative brand shots, complimented by the white Vanuatu islands logo on red background on either side of the banners. The colours projected the destination stunningly, and the result, Vanuatu winning Best Booth Award. |

 Media release 19th May, 2010: Last night at the Tim Cahill Gala dinner for the Cancer Council, the Vanuatu Tourism Office and The Havannah Resort, Port Vila spent the night with Australia’s leading sporting and artistic talent and donated a hotly contested live auction item, raising more than $4000 for the Cancer Council. Hosted by Tim Cahill to raise funds for The Tim Cahill Cancer Fund for Children the evening included performances from the winner of So You Think You Can Dance Australia 2010, Robbie Kmetoni, as well as singers Angel Tupai and Mahalia Barnes. The evening was MCed by Alan Jones AO with Tim Cahill and Ian Thorp as special guests. |

 By Alcina Charlie: A day later and I am still elevated, locked in the memory of my massage bliss, and floating on the “waves” that are still rippling across my entire backside, and shoulders. My pressure points are now non existent and are just tingling sensations after my first Aromatherapy Back Massage at the Oasis Spa, at Warwick Le Lagon Resort. This type of massage concentrates on relieving tight and stressed muscles on the neck, shoulder, and backside, and oh am I relieved alright! I remember as I walk along the deck towards the newly opened Oasis Spa, taking photos as I go, I am surrounded by a deliciously lush, undulating landscape which provides a breathtaking experience offering the purest of privacy. My masseuse is Julia, gentle but firm, and very well trained and talented, relaxing tense muscles, soothing aches, and smoothening tight knots along my spine, shoulders, and backside, even right down to the hull of my palms and ankles. |

 Quite recently, Maina Lukai, VTO’s famils officer went on a half day, mixed bliss and adventure, tour called Blue Lagoon & Whitesands run by the South Pacific Tours. The group drove towards Teoma Ville and Rentapao area, passing Tamanu on the Beach, and 5 minutes later arrived at the stunning inland Blue Lagoon which features a crystal blue lagoon surrounded by lush trees and vegetation where guests can enjoy swimming, snorkelling, even a special ‘tarzan rope plunge’ and kayaking, see photo. |

 By Alcina Charlie, Website Officer: I was picked up by Melissa and staff of Events Vanuatu on Tuesday this week, and we drove off to a an area near the airport so I could find what the sizzling excitement was all about when I got the invitation from Sarah Sands of Events Vanuatu. When I arrived, my oh my what a surprise! Impressed, we pulled up to a huge marquee topping the size chart to 50m x 11m, the largest I have ever seen, here in Vila! I asked Melissa how it all happened and she briefed me that it was around a year ago, when a kiwi couple got married by Sarah and after the wedding, the groom who runs a company that designs and builds marquees, was overwhelmed by how Events Vanuatu had put together a fantastic wedding for him and his bride that arched the beginning of relationship which resulted to this hottest arrival. |

 Story by Brenda Andre, VTO Senior Information Officer: My recent trip to Malekula was an enjoyable and interesting one. I accompanied a French journalist Marie Le Moel from Le Monde Magazine, based in Sydney Australia, from Saturday 10th April returning on Tuesday 13th April 2010. We were transferred to airport by Atmosphere Transfer to the Bauerfield domestic airport. Our flight time to Espiritu Santo was at 10.30am, arriving at 11.30am where we connected flight again to Norsup on Malekula arriving at 1.10pm We were met at the airport by Mrs Oreli, manageress for Nambelchel Bungalow who was guide and host. |

 The Marketing Manager, Mr Sebastien Bador, proudly represented the Vanuatu tourism in the prestigious Queen’s Baton Relay for the XIX Commonwealth Games. The Queens Baton arrived over the weekend on Saturday 24th April, 2010 and relayed around Port Vila, up to the Pentecost land diving tower on the following day, and ended with a farewell relay of the Baton from Grand Hotel and Casino to the international Bauerfield airport on Tuesday 27th April. The baton then flew to the Solomon Islands.

Odile is translating the website and has successfully completed the homepage, menus, listing introductions, and is working on a page at a time.  Report by Danish Syed, Aquamarine Director: Vanuatu Tourism and Aquamarine exhibited at Beneath the Seas 2010, New Jersey, USA. Danish Syed represented VTO at the show. The show from an American consumers awareness perspective was a big success. Our presence was vital in the show as it complemented our Australian relationship with About Australia. About Australia pushed Vanuatu as a side destination throughout the show and kept sending people to our booth to learn more about our Vanuatu. The combination resulted in 3 interested groups in the Aus-Van trip and several groups interested in coming just to Vanuatu separately. |

 Written by Alcina Charlie: No words can better put it than Simply Perfection! The Vanuatu roadshow in New Zealand, fantastically put together by the Vanuatu Tourism representative in Aotearoa Ms Jacquie Carson, took place last week from 13-15 April 2010. My band participated and promoted the destination via music. Theoretically, I was wearing 2 caps, almost like killing 2 birds with one stone. One cap had my Vanuatu Tourism id, which is where I work as the website officer, and the other, well, a more creative and arty side of Alcina singing on stage alongside keyboard (Jimme), guitar (Saka) and lead vocal (Philip). Here is the band's story. |

 Media Release 22 March 2010: Vanuatu Tourism Office is ramping up marketing activity in key source markets in the face of tough competition. A range of campaigns are being implemented in Australia, New Zealand and New Caledonia to increase Vanuatu’s global presence and combat competitor activity. Vanuatu Tourism Office general manager Annie Niatu says while 2010 will be a challenging year, positive growth is possible if significant marketing activity in undertaken in the major overseas markets. “2009 was a successful year for the industry, visitors were up around 11% and for the first time ever Vanuatu hit 100,000 visitor arrivals. |

 This year has had, for the first time, the best outcome so far for Tok Tok Noumea confirmed with a group booking of 25 clients in less than a week, directly as a result of the event held last weekend on the 10th to 12th March at Le Ramada Plaza in the capital city Noumea. VTO was represented by the Marketing Manager, Sebastien Bador and the New Caledonian and francophone market representative Martine Robin. Every morning from 7.30am to 9.30am, a power point presentation was displayed to showcase accommodations on Efate, Santo and Tanna. |

This is the final week for VTO and the Vanuatu Daily Post to round up the contents for What To Do in Vanuatu. In the first issue, VTO joins with the Daily Post in developing the popular tourism newspaper to become the official monthly newspaper and mouthpiece for the Vanuatu Tourism Office in an exciting new development that will revolutionise the way Vanuatu tourism and industry news is promoted overseas. This features a copy of the newspaper in PDF for travel agents, wholesalers and general members of the industry to be able to download off the Vanuatu tourism website, Vanuatu Hotels, and the Daily Post website for their perusal. Keep a look out for What To Do in Vanuatu, soon to be launched. |

 Even for a quiet month in February, VTO’s U.S and North America representative Sue Herrick, has been keeping busy with exciting plans and preparations for Beneath the Sea dive expo, liaising with new dive operators keen to include Vanuatu in their worldwide offerings, making sales calls with Air Pacific representative in California to find potential new sellers for Vanuatu, one high end wholesaler in particular who sells snorkel trips around the world with great potential for Vanuatu, and meeting new educational operators focusing on dive, snorkel and reef preservation. Sue’s recent report reveals that an agent who travelled to Vanuatu on the US Group Agents famil in November last year, with Sue, has recently confirmed a group booking for 2011 as a result of the visit. Sue continues to see diving as a key market from the U.S. and the emphasis on this will undoubtedly help Espiritu Santo Tourism Association with the connection of SS Calvin Coolidge. |

 This week on Tuesday, VTO’s first weekly tourism page, under the Vanuatu Tourism Tribal Drum heading, was launched in Daily Post, opening with an official welcome by Annie Niatu, VTO General Manager. Mrs Niatu proudly introduced readers to the first edition of the weekly tourism page, and provided an insight on plans and preparations for Tok Tok Vanuatu 2010, including a mention on the current rebranding exercise from its early beginnings, involving both the Vanuatu and Australian government, to current progress and development stage. |

 The Vanuatu Tourism Office, represented by the VTO rep in New Zealand, Ms Jacquie Carson, and its Senior Information Officer Ms. Brenda Andre, attended the Auckland Flight Centre trade show in New Zealand from 13th to 14th February. Vanuatu was present with other pacific islands, showcasing the destination with colorful displays and a great team of industry members from Air Vanuatu NZ, Poppy’s on the Lagoon & The Havannah, Le Lagon Resort, Mangoes Resort, Grand Hotel & Iririki Island Resort, and the Vanuatu Tourism Office. Other regional islands promoting their tourism products were Fiji, Cook Islands, New Caledonia, Tahiti, Solomon Islands and Niue. |
