The previous record holder was set by Novum Verlag Gmbh in Australia on 15 July 2007 which recorded 797 participants. But this record was broken on Thursday 19th November when almost 820 locals, the majority of whom were students from senior high schools in Port Vila, primary school students as well as adults teamed up to write a story within a set time frame. Chris Sheedy, the representative of the World Guinness Record in the Asia and Pacific region who, for the first time ever travelled to a Pacific island to make an immediate announcement on this record attempt, said: “Vanuatu has now set a new record in the Guinness World Records for the most number of people to write a story in 24 hours. In itself is also a little history for the participants as the complete story will be published as a book. As I said it is a record for Vanuatu with broad level participation in its community.”

Initiated by Dr. Wendy Stenberg-Tendys of Seachange Lodge, all participants get to write a sotry on “Vanuatu Treasures” which is divided into 35 chapters and fabulously depicted by Vanuatu’s own Deroin Guy Michel, similarly to a comic book or cartoon showing the adventures of 2 kids on all islands of Vanuatu.
