Description
This year will mark the 3rd annual Nalawan festival. The festival had been well attended by yachts in previous years. This festival will take place at Labo Village, Lembinwan Village, and Ten Stick Island in South West Malekula. The Nalawan marks the start of a new season in the traditional calendar and includes grade- taking ceremonies, spectacular custom dances, pig killing, the ancient Noho ritual with offerings to the gods of the land and much more.
During the days leading up to the festival the 9th and 10th there will be cultural events held at the Lembinwan Yacht Club, as well as snorkeling at the nearby Ten Stick Island. There is a large Marine Protected Area at Labo Village as well, which makes the snorkeling excellent. There is good anchorage in Lembinwan and Labo for baots and yachts.
In terms of transportation for those traveling by air, boat ride to Labo from the airport in Wintua Village will take 10 minutes, or 45 minutes on foot. Boat trip normally costs VT 1,000 per trip.
There are accommodations available at Alo Lodge in Wintua Village.
Fees VT 5,000 for adults and VT 2,500. Two lunches included in the program.
Persons to contact for the festival are Yegor Makhiboroda phone (678) 5617845 or Mr. Willie Isno Tourism Chairman for Labo Tourism Committee (678) 5366168.
