If you don’t want your island adventure to end as soon as the sun goes down try seeking out some traditional entertainment like a Melanesian night or a visit to a Kava Nakamal to try a ‘shell’ of Kava.Kava is a popular tradition for many Ni-Vanuatu and there are a lot of Kava Nakamals in Port Vila and Luganville in Santo. To visit one, ask reception at your hotel for advice on where to go. There are countless to choose from including favourites like Shefa Nakamal in Port Vila which carries a spectacular sunset view looking out over the harbour. Some hotels also have Kava tasting at the resort.
To immerse yourself completely in the Ni-Vanuatu culture attend a Melanesian night. Enjoy the wonderful singing, dancing and string bands for which Ni-Vanuatu people are renowned while tasting kava and local delicacies such as laplap. Try visiting Ekasup cultural village, Mele Botanical Garden or Solo’s feast or just ask at your resort they may have a Melanesian night there.
